Marjorie Carol Rohlfs

Marjorie Carol Rohlfs was born on October 5, 1938. She passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family on August 6, 2026.

The family will have a Private Funeral Service with Bro. Steve Brown officiating. Interment will follow in the Hillcrest Cemetery.

Marje was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, teacher, mother, business owner, grandmother, great-grandmother, and faithful servant of Jesus Christ. She deeply treasured her family and spent her life encouraging and supporting those around her.

A devoted follower of Christ, Marje loved studying God’s Word and sharing her faith with others. Full of love and benevolent kindness, she served as a Sunday School teacher and participated in mission work on trips to Russia and Canada.

With her husband and two dear friends, Marje partnered in owning and running a Christian bookstore for many years. Her work there allowed her to minister to the surrounding community, reflecting her desire to help others grow in their relationship with the Lord. The “Total Word Christian Bookstore” was a shining light in old-downtown Boaz for over a decade, and some customers traveled considerable distances for beautifully embossed, leather-bound Bibles with gilt pages, Christian novels, comics, and gifts—but most of all for the hours of conversation and prayer with Marje Rohlfs.

Marje was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 63 years, John H. Rohlfs; her parents, Eloy and Lydia Howerton; her brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Dorothy Howerton; and one sister, Mildred Howerton Kates.

She is survived by her three children and their families: son Brian Rohlfs and his wife, Melanie Rohlfs; daughter Melanie Schmidt and her husband, Gary Schmidt; and daughter Elisabeth Rohlfs-Hill and her husband, Dr. Bradford Hill. Marje is also survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Norma and Jerry Martin; ten grandchildren; and sixteen great-grandchildren, all of whom brought her tremendous joy. Marje is also survived by four nieces and five nephews, whom she dearly loved.

Marje will be deeply missed and joyfully remembered by her family and friends. Her legacy is one of faith, service, love, and devotion to Christ and family. Her gentle spirit, servant’s heart, and enduring example of Christian faithfulness will continue to inspire those who knew and loved her.

Honoring Marje’s heartfelt desire to continue supporting the spread of the Gospel, the family requests that in lieu of flowers memorial gifts be made to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering for International Missions, in care of First Baptist Church of Boaz, 225 S Main St, Boaz, AL 35957.
