Mr. Horace Edward Kilpatrick, age 88, of Auburn, Alabama, formerly of Boaz, died on Thursday, April 18, 2024, at his residence.

 

A funeral service will be held Saturday, April 27, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at Smith Chapel Church located at 1294 Smith Chapel Road Boaz, Alabama 35956. Interment will follow at the church.  Visitation will be on Friday, April 26, 2024, starting at 5:00 p.m. for family and from 6:00 p.m. to 8 p.m. for friends at McRae Funeral Home, Boaz, Alabama.

 

Mr. Kilpatrick was born in Sardis, Alabama, on August 9, 1935, to Belton Onez and Mazine Johnson Kilpatrick. Like most children in the area at that time, Mr. Kilpatrick helped with the family farm, often by helping pick cotton or plow with a mule and was a member of Smith Chapel Methodist Church.  Mr. Kilpatrick graduated on May 11, 1953, from Sardis High School, where he lettered in football, baseball, and basketball.  

 

Upon graduation, Mr. Kilpatrick worked at the General Motors Buick factory located in Flint, Michigan until joining the United States Marine Corps in 1954. Mr. Kilpatrick served aboard the U.S.S. Macon and was discharged as a sergeant in 1957.

 

Mr. Kilpatrick returned to Alabama and, while working for companies such as H.D. Lee, Coca-Cola, and Mortin Thiokol, he attended college at Snead State and at the University of Alabama at Huntsville and graduated with a B.A. from Athens College in 1961.

After graduation from college, Mr. Kilpatrick returned to Sardis and entered the car business in Gadsden, Alabama. Mr. Kilpatrick went on to have many car dealerships, including, most notably through the years, Kilpatrick Chevrolet in Lafayette, Alabama, Kilpatrick Chevrolet in Boaz, Alabama, and H.E. Kilpatrick Chevrolet in Opelika, Alabama. Additionally, Mr. Kilpatrick proudly served on the Board of Directors at First Bank of Boaz since 1974.

 

Mr. Kilpatrick was married to Lois Faye Whitmire Kilpatrick in 1955, and Linda Williams Kilpatrick in 1982, both of whom predeceased him.

 

Mr. Kilpatrick is survived by his brother, Gary D. Kilpatrick (Loretta) of Sardis, his son, Horace Edward Kilpatrick, Jr. (Sandy) of Auburn, his stepchildren, Lewis Lindsay of Opelika, Laurie Lindsay of Athens, Lee Lindsay (Michelle) of Opelika, Lane Lindsay (Angie) of Opelika, his grandchildren, John Edward Belton Kilpatrick, Barbara Joy Kilpatrick, and Jessica Faye Kilpatrick, and several step grandchildren.
