Herbert Baxley

February 19, 1930 — May 19, 2017

Herbert Glenn Baxley, 87, was welcomed into the arms of Jesus on May 19, 2017.

He was born on February 19, 1930 in Midland City, Alabama as the youngest of 6 boys. He enlisted in the Air Force right after graduation and served from 1948-1952. He married Nina Frances Lewis of Headland in 1950 and they were stationed in Waco, Texas. After that he worked at a Peanut Mill in Albany GA before getting a Civil Service job at Fort Rucker. He later became the City Clerk of Enterprise, AL. In 1963 he secured a federal job as a Contract Price Analyst in Orlando, FL moving the family to Kissimmee. Two years later he joined the U.S. Army Missile Command (MICOM) where he served as a Contract Specialist in Procurement at Redstone Arsenal negotiating contracts for the Stinger, Patriot and other Missile Systems. One of his assignments was on Kwajalein Missile Range in the Marshall Islands. While there they enjoyed traveling to Hawaii, Guam and other islands in the South Pacific. He earned a Bachelor of Liberal Arts degree from University of Oklahoma in 1978.

Herb loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and was a Charter Member of Bethany Baptist a Church in Huntsville. After moving to Boaz in 2002, he enjoyed worship and fellowship at First Baptist Church of Boaz. He also enjoyed Bible Study and socializing at the Boaz Senior Center.

Herb was blessed with lasting friendships from all the places he called home and kept in touch with many of them. He valued time spent with family, loved good home cooking (Especially desserts), was a Mason and a member of NARFE. Most of all he will be remembered as a Godly man with a sweet, sweet spirit.

His loved ones include daughter, Rita (Matt) Remson, daughter-in-law, Brenda Baxley, grandsons, Charlie (Courtney) Baxley and Logan Remson, 5 great grandchildren and a special sweetheart, Mildred Spates. He was preceded in death by wife, Nina Baxley, son, Glenn Baxley and granddaughter, Carissa Simmons.

In lieu of flowers the family appreciates donations to First Baptist Church of Boaz Building Fund.
