Billye Gene Canterbury Thompson

Billye Gene Canterbury Thompson, 82, passed away Monday, September 30, 2013, at Shepherd's Cove Hospice in Albertville, Alabama. She was preceded in death by her husband James Keron Thompson, and by her parents William H. and Sara Sitten Canterbury. She is survived by her daughters Cathy Sanford Elkins (Jack) and Jane Cornelius (Charles), a sister Becky Johnson (Glennis), a half-brother Bill Canterbury, grandchildren Carla Durham (Mark), Eric Sanford (Amanda), Richard Adams, great-grandchildren Eleanor Durham, Tyler Durham, Alexander Sanford, Reagan Sanford, nieces: Angie Johnson, Cara Whitehead (Anthony), Lelia Thompson, Suzanne Ewing (Bucky), Nancy McLeod (Jimmy), Renee Thompson, and nephew Terry Thompson.

Born in Albertville June 25, 1931, she attended Albertville and Boaz schools. In 1948 she married her husband Keron, and they enjoyed 46 happy years until his death in 1994. During those years she was first a homemaker and mother until starting a career with the Boaz School's food service. She eventually became manager of the satellite program, and assisted by her husband, prepared food for the Boaz schools in a central kitchen. In 1988 they retired after over 20 years of public school service. She was a long-time member of First Baptist Church of Boaz.

In retirement she enjoyed traveling, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and was never happier than when entertaining family and friends.

Funeral services are Wednesday, October 2 at 1:00 P.M. at McRae Funeral Home, Boaz, Alabama. Visitation is 11:30 A.M to 1:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Hospice of Marshall County or to First Baptist Church of Boaz.
