Austelene King McGee

September 8, 1924 ~ March 5, 2019 (age 94)

Austelene “Aussie” Alma King McGee passed away peacefully on March 5, 2019, at the Albertville Nursing Home.

Austelene, the fourth of Fred and Effie King’s five children, was the first member of her family to earn a college degree. She and her late husband, Ralph, owned and operated Fred King’s clothing stores in Boaz and Albertville from 1950 – 1990.

An accomplished businessperson and homemaker who loved to cook for family and friends, Aussie was known for being an early-bird, someone who preferred action to contemplation and who always enjoyed being, in her words, “on the go.” She loved doing for others, being with her family and friends, growing and sharing all types of plants, and walking anywhere - especially in downtown Boaz. She greatly valued reading and education. She deeply loved the Tennessee Valley, the State of Alabama, and her alma mater The University of Alabama.

Aussie inspired many with her strength, her drive to succeed, and her dedication to family and community.  She will be dearly missed.

Austelene was a member of North Broad Street Church of Christ in Albertville.

Visitation will be held Saturday, March 9 from 9:30 to 10:30AM at McRae Funeral Home Chapel in Boaz, the funeral following at 10:30AM with Brother James Dudley officiating. Graveside service will be held at 3:00PM in Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens, Florence.

Survivors include sons James R. McGee, Jr. (Inez) Mailbu, CA, and John McGee (Vivian) Raleigh, NC; chosen son Jim Brown (Patty) Macon, GA; beloved grandchildren Cort McGee and Kelly McGee; a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Aussie was preceded in death by her Husband: James Ralph McGee, Sr. Brothers: Hershel, Stanley & Earl King. Sister: Edna Holley.

Special thanks to all friends and family, and everyone at Branchwater Village, Marshall Medical Center South, Rehab Select, Albertville Nursing Home, and Shepherd’s Cove Hospice.

Memorials may be made to Shepherd’s Cove Hospice.

In memory of a caring lady - Austelene King McGee

"Honesty Was Her Trait"

Her life on earth was filled with, joy, peace, and understanding while helping others-

She was kind, firm, and supportive realizing that we are all sisters and brothers.

She would listen to your words and allow you to present your message and view-

She was willing to tell you if your message was not respectful with words few.

All the years she spent here on God's good earth she maintained a high standard for herself-

She never failed to show others honor, respect, and kindness - Never was it put on a shelf.

She was a person with a demeanor of excellence without having to say a word-

She put first things first - Never speaking a message - Never was a negative message heard.

One could always know her position on the subject being discussed - Honesty was her trait-

She was prompt with her commitments and expected others to do and not be late.

She was quite with a respectful mannerism that everyone appreciated and learned to expect-

Do your best to accomplish you goal - She was a lovely lady with a simple approach without neglect.

Her examples were plentiful, encouraging, and uplifted others spirit with her actions-

Her life filled with people that held her in high esteem - Never was a distraction.

While we are here today to show honor, respect, and show our sympathy to her family and friends-

It is difficult to extract from our vocabulary words her life imbedded in our thoughts - Never to end.

With our prayers and best wishes for peace and comfort,

Doyle E. Parker
